The Efrex FAQ
Well, it ain't exactly a FAQ yet, since nobody's asked any of these questions, but I'll put some factoids out there, and if you want more info, you'll just haveta ask, now, won't you?
What does "efrex" mean, exactly?
Well, not much of anything, really. It was a random series of letters which I used for my first AOL ID, lo these many years ago, and I've stuck with it for longer than any other online ID I've had (and I've had several)
Why do you refer to yourself as a "straight theatre queen?"
Because that's what I am, silly!
Okay, the "straight" part is because, well, I'm heterosexual. Happily married, thank you, to The Lovely Wife(tm), who overlooks a veritable Everest of flaws, faults, and just plain weird things about her husband. I call myself a "theatre queen" because, well, that's what I am. John Kenrick defines "musical theatre queen" as someone:
enlightened enough to realize that stage and screen musicals are the be all and end all, the ultimate cultural flowering of the human race.
and there you have me. I saw my first musical when I was 10 years old (the stage version of "Singin' in the Rain"), and, after sporadic exposure during my formative years, became a full-fledged lover of the form in the early 90's.
Being a straight theatre queen presents some unusual difficulties. A few years back, there was a Giants game on TV at the same time as a Barbara Streisand marathon on another channel. I might be the only person in the world who considered this a major conflict of interests ("Kent Graham!" "Funny Girl!" "Kent Graham!" "ACK!")... now, if only I'd been a Neilsen household... :)
Does The Lovely Wife(tm) share your interest?
Well,
- she has a master's degree in educational theatre
- Our paths crossed for good at a cult movie musical that shall remain nameless
- The first person who told me to marry her was a former owner of Eighty-Eight's, a west village piano bar where we hung out for many weekends before we finally started dating
- We walked into our wedding hall to the strains of "Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy
So... what do you think?
